Forward Jahred Ashmeade (honorable mention all-league; 6 goals), defender Charlie DeBolt (first-team all-league), defender Nate Hoang (special mention all-league), midfielder Alex James (first-team all-league; 6 goals) and goalie Aaron Kim (second-team all-league; 42 saves) led a 12-player senior class.

The ball came down to a hard-charging Matthew Dorado, who one-touched to a streaking Blendick for the equalizer with 15:59 left in regulation.

The Olentangy Orange boys soccer team had better chances than visiting Upper Arlington, but it didn’t translate to a better result as the two battled to a scoreless draw in OCC-Central Division action Thursday night in Lewis Center.

Jack Behre and Alex James scored first-half goals, with Jahred Ashmeade assisting on both, as the Pioneers parlayed a 2-0 halftime edge into a lopsided league win over the visiting Wildcats Tuesday night in Lewis Center.
Ashmeade had a hand in all three of his team’s second-half tallies, too, assisting on a goal by Zach Blendick before scoring a pair of his own.
Source: Delaware Gazette“Most of these guys were first-year varsity players last year,” said Weiss, whose team has 12 seniors. “They all play at a high level and they understand what we need and what we want. They’re feeding off each other and doing a nice job.”
Weiss likes the makeup of his defense, which surrendered just three goals in its first four games, and he also expects the offense to start heating up.
“That’s really a matter of timing,” Weiss said. “One thing we need to get better at is getting timing down as we move the ball up the field. That will give us better chances to score. That really dictates how we attack the goal.”

Senior forward Eddie Muller and junior midfielder Alex James both had four goals. Senior midfielder Jack Kossoudji, senior defender Brandon Young and junior forward Zach Blendick all had three goals.
Source: This Week NewsOrange coach Brett Weiss commented before the game that the Pioneers (5-1-1, 0-1) would find out where they stood.
“There’s a reason why (Liberty) is third in the state,” he said. “We got kind of lost in the game in the first (half) and we paid for it on two set pieces. The nice thing is that when you play teams like (Liberty) – they teach you how to play.
“What I learned about our team is that we’re growing and (we were) resilient tonight. We were pretty low at the half, but we came back in the second. I like the way we played in the second half.”
Source: The Delaware Gazette“They are buying into what we are doing, and that’s huge,” Weiss said. “We’re showing good gumption in spots when we’re working into trouble and we have found our way out. I’m happy with where we’re at.
“In my opinion, we’re starting to understand how good we can be if we defend together (and) if we can move together.”
Source: This Week NewsBrett Weiss has a roster laden with juniors and seniors in his first season coaching the boys soccer team. The Pioneers were 7-7-3 overall and 1-3-1 in the OCC-Buckeye last season. "All of the seniors and juniors on the roster are pretty balanced, and all of them will be sharing time to keep the energy level high," Weiss said. "We have a good group committed to working hard and training hard. We have a good work ethic in the program, and we can give everyone game time without missing a beat."

“We’re very young, but they are playing very well together,” said second-year coach Jason Bayer, whose team finished 8-8-3 overall last season and was fifth (1-2-2) in the OCC-Buckeye behind champion Liberty (4-0-1). “We don’t have that one star player, but we have a bunch of good kids playing together. We have to take advantage of our opportunities when we have them.”
